Merovingians
C6-7th
The priory is situated on a Merovingian necropolis dating to the 6th or 7th century. More than thirty Merovingian graves have been excavated beneath and around the priory buildings (see plan at right).
Three graves are left exposed to the east of the main priory gate, and skeletons still remain in a stone-slab sarcophagus in one of the priory cellars.
Jewellery, weapons, and other artefacts from these graves are on display in the museum in the nearby village of Azé.
